One thing was for certain this mission trip was a lot of hard work and included some very long days. Nevertheless, every one of our team member have since commented on how rewarding our trip was. Everyone felt very blessed by the opportunity to participate in our very first mission trip.  We certainly experienced  God was in our mist, as some twenty-one (21) souls were saved over the duration of  our Vacation Bible Study(VBS)  at Pastor Jorge’s church—Praise God!!

Saturday 14 July was a travel day. We departed from Dulles International Airport Washington D.C. to Mexico City, Mexico, and then from Mexico City we traveled by bus to the city of Puebla; and arrived there about 2 A.M., where we checked into the City express Hotel for a few hours of sleep, and then after we finished breakfast we checked out early that Sunday morning and continued on with our travel itinerary.  Sunday morning 15 July, we departed Puebla in route to the Jeroc’s hotel in Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala. Upon arrival at Jeroc’s we all completed out check in, placed our bags in our respective rooms, and immediately proceeded on to Santa Justina.  Once in Santa Justina we first stop at the Lighthouse Building Project to just witness how well the building was progressing. After spending a few minutes at the building project, we continued on to Pastor Jorge’s Church for Sunday worship service. Without doubt, we all enjoyed a spirit-filled worship service with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Monday 16 July was our first day of vacation bible school (VBS) at Pastor Jorge’s church.  Our VBS events included things like face painting, arts and crafts, bible study, outside sporting events, and a daily lunch—and for the most part the schedule of events continued in this order for the remainder of VBS.

Tuesday and Wednesday events were essentially the same as Monday, except on Wednesday a few of members of our team (especially our Deacon Posey, the only one with any real handyman skills) volunteered to revisit the Lighthouse Building Project in order to assist with the manual labor of pouring the cement roof for the building.  After finishing Wednesday’s VBS, the remainder of our team went over to the building site as well to help out in any way we could, however, we mostly went to watch the pouring of a cement roof.  After the roof was all completed, we were given an extra, extra, treat by Pastor Jorge’s congregation; they provided us with this authentic, home-cooked, Mexican cuisine, and believe you me, this food was nothing short of delicious.  After eating our fill, the team was then provided the opportunity of going shopping and to enjoy a little site-seeing as well in the city of Puebla. Everyone was able to fine items of interest to purchase and at very good prices.

Thursday included the usual VBS events.  After lunch the Pastor conducted leadership training for Pastor Jorge and the leaders of his church. Pastor Johnson’s wife conducted similar training with the women of the church. Friday was the last day for VBS activities.  Afterwards the team was invited to have lunch at Pastor Jorge’s home; again we were treated with authentic home cooked Mexican cuisine—and again it was indeed delicious.  After lunch we then traveled back to the Church for an evening worship service (praising God with songs and the preaching of the Word).  After worship service, we held a VBS graduation ceremony and provided certificates to everyone that participated.  Afterwards, parting gifts were then exchanged. Lighthouse also provided brand new Bibles for the members of his congregation.

Saturday 21 Jul 2007 our return travel day back to the USA via the Dulles International Airport, Washington, D.C.

We can’t find words to express how much we appreciated the daily support that was provided by our very friend Pepe, and this includes his friends and ours (Eduardo, Liz, Steven, Alex & Lucy). Without all of their much needed support we could not have carried out our mission in Mexico.
